Report of the Network activities and global WSP initiatives,

Work Plan for 2010:
a.,
WSP-related research agenda for LAC: Targeted at academics
and researchers, this initiative will build on the work commenced
during the Lisbon conference and aim to prioritize and strategize
the research needs for WSP advancement in the region, Rick

b.
WSP implementation and assessment: Targeted at practitioners
(on the ground people), this initiative will develop a plan
of action to scale up the adoption of WSP by utilities/municipalities
and, testing the IWA-WHO “WSP Assessment Tool in LAC”,
Tom Williams -IWA
c.
WSP advocacy and policy for LAC: Targeted at government representatives,
professional associations, NGOs etc. This initiative will
look at the opportunities for advocacy efforts to support
the mainstreaming of WSP into regional / national policies
and activities to scale-up WSP implementation, Carlos Rosito
-AIDIS
This
initiative could be closely tied to UN-World Water Day 2010,
focused on “Communicating Water Quality Challenges and
Opportunities” and the coordination between WOP/WSP/OMN
programs oriented to service providers.

Active communication and information about WSP, policies and
procedures. The network will identify critical knowledge gaps
to prepare the appropriate information and will publish a
biannual Newsletter to share experience, expertise and recent
developments in WSP implementation, Ricardo Torres –OPS-SDE
4.
Network members will be asked to choose the initiative relevant
to their work and experience. They will have to come up with
a plan of work guided by a representative from the lead organization.
Each lead organization will be responsible for working with
the Regional Coordinator in that particular initiative.
