20 to 22 October this year will be held in Cochabamba, Bolivia
a training workshop oriented to improve water supply management
and capacity building among the municipal water and sanitation
operators. This workshop has being organized by the local
Committee of WSP Promotion and sponsored by the LAC/WSP Network,
PAHO/WHO-Bolivia and the Departmental Committee of Sanitation
of Cochabamba, CODESAB.
The
Committee of WSP Promotion involves ABIS-Bolivia, Alianza
Agua Segura, AMDECO, Water for People, CASA, Fundación
Agua Tuya, UNICEF and UN-Habitat and, representatives of the
Ministries of Environment and Water and Health and Sports,
the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, national
universities and international cooperation. On this occasion,
the Committee has decided to prioritize the participation
of major EPSAS (water utilities) of Cochabamba, Tarija, Santa
Cruz y La Paz, as well as encourage the participation of small
municipalities in the department of Cochabamba. The training
session about Water Safety Plans will conducted by Dr. Mirna
Argueta, President of AIDIS-Honduras.
One
goal of this workshop will be the commitment to implement
two demonstration projects in Cochabamba, one sponsored by
Water For People and one by AGUATUYA Foundation. The Network
will monitor and the implementation of these projects. The
Committee has also programmed to include other Bolivian departments
in the future in order to undertake the task of improving
the quality of water through the implementation of WSP.
