The rol of Water Safety Plans in the Regulation of Water Services
For the successful implementation of a water safety plan, commitment of all the actors associated to the drinking water services: local authorities, regulators and suppliers is vital. A collaborative approach within the “Framework for Drinking Water Safety” seeks to develop public health objectives.
Accordingly, it is of special relevance that the 9th Annual Assembly of the Association of Regulating Entities of Water and Sanitation of the Americas, ADERASA (http://www.aderasa.org/), has considered within its program, the discussion of the Water Safety Plan management approach.
IX Asamblea Anual de ADERASA

The Association of Regulating Entities of Water and Sanitation of the Americas, ADERASA, the most important organization at regional level in the matter of regulation, will celebrate its 9th Annual Assembly in Lima, Peru.
Members of the 19 countries from Latin America and the Caribbean that comprise ADERASA will participate in this meeting. Since its creation in 2001, ADERASA works to improve the quality of the services of water and sanitation for the benefit of the people in the region. The National Supervisor of Sanitation Services in Peru (SUNASS) will be the host institution of these events.

In addition, ADERASA has planned to organize an International Seminar titled “The role of the regulator in the 21st Century: challenges and opportunities" to be carried out on September 29 - 30 as well as the 2nd Ibero American Regulation Forum “Contribution of the regulation to the sustainable economic growth and the quality of life of the citizens” to be held the next two days of the seminar on October 1 – 2, 2009.

Within the framework of the International Seminar and facing the necessity of the governments to deal with the international crisis, different international and national organizations, experts from water and sanitation companies, national, regional and local authorities will jointly analyze ways to improve performance through regulatory approaches, efficiency and financial viability. The Seminar also intends to create an inclusive space for the participation of institutions related to water that wish to present their services, products and activities, as well as a space to stimulate the public - private alliances and cooperation.

The Seminar has been organized around four sessions:
1. Water and sanitation in the context of the international crisis
2. Protection of water sources and climate change
3. Lessons learned with Peru´s Program Water for All
4. Participation of the private sector in the management of water and sanitation services: challenges and opportunities.

This meeting has the support of ECLAC, IWA, World Water Council, SUEZ and VEOLIA among others.
