HABITAT and partners promote Water Safety Plans in Bolivia
(16-17, Nov/2010)
In
partnership with FEDECAS (Water and Sanitation Small operators
in Santa Cruz), the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Water
and Environment and other agencies such as PAHO, GTZ, JICA,
UN Habitat is sponsoring a workshop on Water Safety Plans
(WSP) in November 16 and 17 in the city of Santa Cruz, Bolivia,
aimed primarily to technicians of water service cooperatives,
municipalities, NGOs and other related institutions.
This
workshop aims to generate commitment and strategies in different
national and regional levels to promote the implementation
of WSP in the country and it is expected to gather institutional
efforts that will contribute to improve water quality in
the city of Santa Cruz

Interamerican Congress of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering
From
7 to 11 November 2010 was held on 32nd Interamerican Congress
of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering in Bavaro, Punta
Cana, Dominican Republic. Under the theme "Meeting the
Millennium Development Goals in the pursuit of universal services",
the Congress expects from the specialists attending the congress
to bring new initiatives and technological advances to be
applied in a context of rapid modernization of the Latin American
countries and at the same time with unpredictable climate
changes.

Managing
Drinking-Water quality for Public Health
From
November 2 to 4, in Kuching, Malaysia, took place the Water
Safety Conference sponsor by WHO and organized jointly by
IWA and the Malaysian Water Association with the support of
the Malaysian Government. The program intended to tackle knowledge
gaps on water safety relating to policy, practice and research
and the launch of a Water Safety Plan Quality Assurance Tool
and the Asia-Pacific Water Safety Plan Network. At the same
time, WHO organized pre- and post-conference workshops on
International Small Community Water Supply Management and
Household Water Treatment and Safe Storage.

Singapore International Water Week
The
2011 Singapore International Water Week, the global platform
for policymakers, industry leaders, experts and practitioners
to exchange information on challenges, discover opportunities
and celebrate achievements in the world of water, will take
place from 4 to 8 July, with the theme Sustainable Water Solutions
for a Changing Urban Environment. WHO will use the occasion
to launch the 4th edition of its Drinking-water Quality Guidelines.
