As
announced, the 3rd LAC-WSP Network meeting was held in Mexico
during IWA 1st Development Congress. It was a fruitful meeting
were representatives of almost 20 institutions discussed
how to promote and implement WHO’s methodology in
the region, as a way to produce standards of quality of
the product and permanent improvement of the drinking water
system.
Opening
Dr Blanca Jimenez (UNAM) welcomed participants and requested
to try to adapt WSP methodology to the developing country
setting. Utilities often complain that the process is too
complicated, data does not exist and they do not have sufficient
understanding of water systems. For this reason, Dr Jimenez
proposed to develop a more appropriate understanding of
how to implement this methodology based on developing country
capacities “It is not only the lack of material in
Spanish or other languages, it is lack of culturally appropriate
materials that have not been adapted to the local settings”.
